The Word
Genesis 32:22-26a
But during the night Jacob got up and sent his two wives, two concubines, and eleven sons across the Jabbok River. After they were on the other side, he sent over all his possessions. This left Jacob all alone in the camp, and a man came and wrestled with him until dawn. When the man saw that he couldn’t win the match, he struck Jacob’s hip and knocked it out of joint at the socket. Then the man said, “let me go, for it is dawn.” But Jacob panted, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” NLT
A Thought
Jacob sent his family, the servants, and everything he owned to the other side of the Jabbok River. He was alone with his thoughts and worries!
Isn’t it still true? It is when you are in bed and expect to settle down for the night that your mind and thoughts start to churn. The worries of the day, the thoughts of what you could have/should have said, the chores that were not completed, the expected happenings of the next day that have unknown results, all come into your mind full force.
Similar to Jacob wrestling with the man, you are alone with all these thoughts and no one can help you control your thoughts except God.
Jacob would not give up his fight with the man similar to how we toss and turn through out the night. We are not ready to settle and be still until we find a solution or make a plan for our situation.
At dawn, the situations/worries often look different than what you struggled with during the night. If you have not made a plan by morning, only then you are ready to leave God handle the issues!
At dawn the man struck Jacob’s hip and knocked it out of the socket, and left Jacob with a limp. In a similar manner, your soul is not clear, the body is dragging, your mind desperately wants a nap, and you are not at your best during the day.
Jacob wrestled with this man all night and he was not about to give up now unless he received a blessing.
Do you notice that even though the night may have been sleepless and your thoughts running wild, there is a blessing for the new day?
Will you be determined to receive His blessing today? A blessing for a new day?
